Why It Works

Mediation is not a win-lose proposition; it's a win-win process designed to enable parties to ask for what they need and create satisfying outcomes.

Voluntary - Mediation is effective because it is voluntary and confidential. Each party must agree to mediate; this willingness to work toward a solution is a required component of the process. Willingness to engage is a more necessary element than believing or understanding how mediation works.

Confidential - What you say in mediation stays in mediation and cannot later be used in administrative hearings or court. This allows parties to negotiate and communicate openly without fear of repercussions.

Safety - Mediation is a balanced space for communication which creates communication safety regardless of what external imbalances exist.
